Project Closeout

How to Protect Finished Floors During Construction Closeout

Protect finished floors by defining cure times, approved coverings, clean access routes, inspection ownership, and recleaning responsibility before turnover.

Protection begins with the flooring requirements

Finished floors stay ready for turnover when the general contractor confirms manufacturer cure times, approved protection materials, cleaning methods, access rules, and the person responsible for acceptance before other trades return to the area.

Create a controlled route

Separate material movement from accepted areas where possible and keep entrances free of grit that can travel under coverings.

  • Confirm the floor is ready to cover
  • Use only approved, compatible protection
  • Clean beneath protection before placement
  • Inspect seams and traffic transitions daily
  • Assign removal and recleaning responsibility

Inspect before and after covering

Photograph the surface condition before protection, record existing deficiencies, and inspect again when coverings are removed. This prevents uncertainty about when damage occurred and keeps repairs from appearing at the final walkthrough.

Coordinate the last removal

Remove protection after dust-producing and heavy-access work is complete, then perform the specified final cleaning and inspection. Segur Cleaning coordinates phased Texas construction cleaning with documented handoffs that protect completed work through owner turnover.
